Around 10 years ago, I was VERY active in a long hair forum. I was an active member for about 4 years or so. Once I cut my Tail Bone Length hair (TBL), I didn't feel as much a part of this community. I had just had a baby and the hair had become rather cumbersome, and my time was really precious so primping myself took a backseat.
All these years, I have fondly recalled how warm this community was and how many wonderful online friends I had made. So recently, once I decided to Henndigo my hair, I reactivated my membership to solicit advice from the experts. Once I rejoined, I did notice that none of my posts were being replied to. There was no warm welcome, either, but I decided to not take it personally and just keep posting. I also quickly realized I wasn't learning anything new from these people. Instead, it had turned into a public place to fish for compliments or to bash others.
As I kept checking in sporadically and reading additional posts, I noticed how silly and shallow the majority of the posts were. One girl went as far as to compare Afro American hair with pubic hair in order to illustrate how her hair had been damaged beyond repair. Still, I figured as time went on, more level heads would prevail, but I was mistaken.
Today was the last draw. I replied to a poster who was complaining about struggling to embrace her wavy hair because she felt it looked messy and frizzy . Having been there myself, I typed a long post detailing what worked for my hair and what did not because we have a similar hair type. I really though I was helping out. Then, at the bottom of her post, she revealed how it was the lighting in her home that was the culprit. I am sorry, but those issues were not due to lighting, but whatever. I simply just deleted my post and revised it to how happy I was she discovered the real issue. I am a very honest person and self deception is not something I take to kindly. I then decided this forum was not for me.
I think I am going to stick to looking up information online as needed and stay far away from these open public message boards. I don't have the patience to deal with too much BS and I am beyond loving drama in my life.
